Expected Impacts

The MeeFS Retrofitting project proposes an innovative solution for taking full advantage of the potential that RES and insulation materials offer for building energy efficiency. The combination of advanced active solutions with efficient passive design and materials, energy management and new business models will offer a unique opportunity to effective renovation of the building stock of reducing their energy consumption and reducing building operating costs without requiring mayor capital investment from the inhabitants. According to a recent study of Technion - Israel Institute of technology1 active strategies could save energy in the range of 8% up to 40% depending on the combination used; passive strategies between 20% to 60% but some of these strategies are not always applicable. Only in the combination of active features with passive strategies, consistent savings of 50%-55% could be obtained for most cases when compared with conventional situations.
